Chip BGA Reballing
We are now reballing chips. This means that if we have been unable to resolder the chip back onto the motherboard because the solder Ball Grid Array (BGA) has been damaged, we now remove the chip from the board, remove the BGA and replace it with a new set. We then resolder the refurbished chip back onto the motherboard. Reballing the chip makes the solder joints as good as new and will greatly extend the life of the laptop Initially we will only be doing this where the reflow has failed, but soon we will be doing it for all laptops that are sent us for chip resoldering.

New Complete Reballing Process Video
Our new YouTube Video showing the Complete Reballing process from beginning to end, has been launched today. It begins with a motherboard with an unsoldered chip, and progresses through removing the chip, Infrared Reballing of the chip, and ends with Infrared Reflowing (soldering) the chip back onto the motherboard again. This has some excellent scenes in it, in particular one taken with our Macro Camera system of the actual Infrared Reballing process where the loose solder balls reflow onto the chip. We didn't realise how much the solder balls move around just before they solder to the chip!
Cricut Gypsy Mini USB Socket Replacement
The popular Cricut Gypsy Handheld "Design Studio" allows almost unlimited patterns to be created and then passed to the Cricut Cutter, which cuts them out on coloured cardboard or paper.
The Gypsy is connected to the Cutter via a Mini USB socket which is very prone to breaking off, rendering the device almost useless.
Until now the only solution was to buy another Gypsy, but this means the hundreds of stored designs and patterns are effectively lost since they can't be transferred to the new one.
At Reflow Repairs we use special micro soldering techniques to fit a new Mini USB Socket back onto the Gypsy's circuit board, and to repair any damaged circuit tracks.
Finally we stengthen the the whole lot so it'll never come off again!

Laptops fitted with Nvidia Graphics Chips
Until December 2011 we were one of the few UK companies fitting brand new redesigned Nvidia Graphics Chips in place of old chips, which had failed due to inherent design faults.
Finding genuine replacement chips had taken a considerable amount of time because of the huge number of fakes on the market, and despite our best efforts we found a small number in our stock.
Because of this we are no longer carrying out any Nvidia Graphics repairs, and are looking into other solutions for owners of laptops with such chips.
Laptops with ATI and Intel chips with graphics problems are unaffected, as are all our other repairs.
If you are the owner of a laptop with an Nvidia Chip and you're not sure if it's faulty, please contact us and we'll be happy to give you a diagnosis and any further advise.
In the meantime be aware that the market is flooded with fake replacement Nvidia Graphics chips, and to be very careful if another repair company offers to fit new replacement Nvidia Graphics Chips,or to "reflow" your Nvidia Chip.
Faulty Nvidia Graphics Chip? - Read This!
If you bought a laptop with an Nvidia chipset from a UK Retailer within the last 6 years and it is now broken with what you suspect is a faulty Nvidia chip, then you may well be able to make a successful claim against the retailer.
